ERA in the News: April 4-10, 2020
WILL YOU BE WATCHING MRS. AMERICA?
This coming week, the first show of FX's new series, Mrs. America , will premier on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. With an all-star cast, Mrs. America profiles the movement to ratify the ERA and the conservative backlash led largely by Phyllis Schlafly.
Here's a quick rundown of the cast:
Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinem
Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug
Uzo Aduba as Shirley Chisholm
Elizabeth Banks as Jill Ruckelshaus
Tracey Ullman as Betty Friedan
Cate Blanchett as Phyllis Shlafly
A series of nine shows, Mrs. America will begin airing on April 15th. It is only available for streaming on Hulu. Hulu has a free 30-day trial period, if you want to watch the series.
While we're not especially cool with Phyllis Shlafly receiving any more attention, this review from Vanity Fair gives us a spark of hope that the ERA is the "shero" of the story.

CALL TO ACTION
The Advocacy Committee at the Alice Paul Institute is putting together a social media campaign specifically for the increased attention the Equal Rights Amendment will receive when the Mrs. America series airs.
We are creating new items for the #ERAToolkit, and are asking all the ERA activists out there to get busy on your favorite social media streams. Help us combat the resurgence of lies and mistruths that will be shared, yet again, about the ERA.
For more information and ready-to-share content, please follow the Advocacy Committee on:
CAMPUS ERA DAY ON APRIL 27
The 4th annual Campus ERA Day is still happening on April 27, 2020. The event will be fully virtual this year. If you know a college student who would be interested, or are a member of the staff or faculty of a university, please share this opportunity with your students. This year's line-up of speakers if phenomenal!
